I have been waiting to do this shoot for months! Haha!
The session had been a gift from Meagan’s coworkers to celebrate the birth of her first child. But unfortunately, as with many other things, the pandemic put it on hold. But I have to admit-
It was definitely worth the wait.
Because instead of newborn pictures, we were able to celebrate his FIRST BIRTHDAY with an EPIC cake smash!
Somehow in the midst of a heatwave we were able to find a break in the humidity, and traveled to Coppal House Farm in Lee, NH for their famed sunflowers! With their beautifully coordinated outfits and the bright flowers, we had the perfect backdrop for their first family pictures!
With a striking resemblance to the youngest member of The Incredibles, Colton stole the show. A little camera shy at first, it wasn’t long before his curiosity got the best of him, and he began to explore the massive flowers. Under the watchful eyes of Meagan and Steven, he crawled among the rows, even clenching their fingers as he wobbled on his legs for a few steps.
A perfect mix of pride and excitement,
His expressions were priceless.
Then, after capturing some beautiful family pictures and a few set up shots of the PERFECT antique high chair, colorful banner and pristine white cake, it was time to let Colton go ham.
Historically I’ve found that cake smashes can be a little tricky as babies don’t quite know what to do with them. But Colton knew right away.
Immediately interested in the bright sprinkles, Steven literally had to hold him back!
Once he broke through the frosting, the excitement continued when he saw the brightly colored layers of cake. What I loved, was how he kept reaching his frosting covered hands up to share with Meagan and Steven.
Their relaxed, easy going nature made the Lennon Family a dream to work with. Not only were they incredibly photogenic, but the joy Meagan and Steven felt with each other was contagious. We had so much fun, that truthfully, it almost made the thick August heat disappear. Which, in 80 degrees with 80% humidity is no easy feat.
Thank you Meagan, Steven for choosing me to be a part of such a big milestone!
And, of course, I would like to wish Mr. Colton a happy happy FIRST BIRTHDAY!
